We are living in a time of great political upheaval. We hear of it every day on the news, social media, podcasts, and civilian journalist videos. Today the Special Counsel report has been made public. Before it even hit the public arena, there were those getting ready to deny it that the report would not advance their agenda, as well as those preparing to defend it because it advanced their agenda. You would think that a report being completed by a Special Counsel, with a host of investigators, would be considered as true and all agenda would need to align with the truth. But this does not happen in a heated political arena.
We find the same when it comes to the Word of God, the Bible. So much of the promises stated in the Bible are based on past facts, past accomplishments, and past witnesses. Yet when the report comes out, the written Word of God, there are those who deny and those who defend. Those who have an agenda in life that do not want the scriptures to interfere with their agenda will deny. Those who decided to have their life agree with the scriptures will certainly defend them.
There was a time in my own life when I would deny the Word of God and anything that would have to do with God. It did not fit my agenda of life to agree with His Word. Thankfully, the day came when I turned from my agenda to His truth. In John 4.24 Jesus said, “..unless you believe that I Am, you shall die in your sins.” I am so glad He said, ‘unless you believe’ and not ‘unless you understand’. This is the whole foundation of faith, to believe rather than to understand.
Jesus said to Nicodemus “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” In other words, unless you believe first, you will not see. Isn’t that the way it is with all the promises of God? You can see the facts in the Bible, read the eye witnesses accounts, look at all the Old and New Testament saints and Jesus accomplished, yet unless we believe we will not see it in our own life. Speaking to Thomas, Jesus declared, “Because you have seen Me, have you believed? Blessed are they who did not see, and yet believed.” The blessing of believing is that we will see, understand, and know.
The righteous are to live by faith, not understanding. That is how it all started at the New Birth when we stepped into new life in Christ. That is how it continues in this life by faith, not understanding. Now that we are saved, don’t lean back to your agenda and deny the truth of the Word of God and all His promises and provisions given to us. Will we go forward in our life denying as we try to understand? Or will we receive by faith and defend the truth from a God who cannot lie?
