Proverbs 4:13 says that we are to take firm hold of instruction, as one who possesses, for this instruction is our life. God has set continuous times and seasons and given many opportunities to possess His instruction, or in other words, His life. Entering into His times and seasons and opportunities, helps us to purpose to keep Him first place and to grow up into Him. God doesn’t want you to do anything without Him – this includes parenting. Parenting is an example, a pattern to be imitated by word and deed before our children, leading them into a relationship with their Creator.
So the question to us as parents would be, what pattern are we giving to our children to be imitated? Is it that pattern of setting ourselves before God, availing ourselves of His instruction, seeking after Him with all of our being? That is the pattern that will give us and our families the relationship God desires to have with us. We as parents must possess God’s instruction in order to possess God’s life. Whatever you possess will be yours to pass on to your children. It’s worth every sacrifice and every effort to see our families become solid in Christ!
