We have now come to the end of the month of November in Florida and storm season is over for this year,  yet it seems that no matter what the month is, the political storms continue.  There are new storms brewing all the time and new storms are in the media.  It seems to be storm upon storm upon storm.  Is there no break?  Can we ever catch our breath before a new storm comes along?  We seem to be living in very tumultuous times and the climate is heating up before the calm will finally settle in.

Jesus and His disciples found themselves in several storms as recorded in the Word of God.  Once, Jesus was sleeping in the boat, another time He was not with His disciples but came walking to them on the water.  Each time the disciples were in the storm they were fearful, anxious, and putting great effort into striving to stay alive.  Jesus spoke to the storm and calmed it, the disciples yelled about the storms and did nothing about them.

We may not be able to calm the political storms around us, but in the midst of the storm we can walk in the peace that Jesus gives. We can speak to the stormy conditions in our own life and settle the contrary waves coming against us by using the Word of God in our situation.

At the word of Jesus, Peter stepped out of the boat in the middle of a storm and walked on the water. He then took his focus off the word Jesus spoke and looked at the storm which caused him to start to sink.  Having cried out to Jesus for help, Jesus helped him get back in the boat and asked him why he doubted.  Amid storms as in any situation: Faith walks on the water, but doubt will sink us every time.

Let’s decide to be a person of faith that comes by hearing the Word of God.  Let’s be a water walker as we obey the Word of the Lord.  Let’s kill doubt in our lives by staying focused on the Word of God rather than focusing on the storms.
