The apostle Paul was writing to the church in 2 Corinthians 12:14 -15 and he said this “…for children are not responsible to save up for parents, but parents for children. “I will most gladly spend and be expended for your souls…”
The Message Bible says “Children shouldn’t have to look out for parents, parents look out for the children. I’d be most happy to empty my pockets, even mortgage my life, for your good.”
The Living Bible says “You are my children, and little children don’t pay for their father’s and mother’s food it’s the other way around, parents supply food for their children. I am glad to give you myself and all I have for your spiritual good.”
Be encouraged! The Greek translation of verse 15 says that “spending” is a sacrifice made in connection with the completion of a vow and that being “spent” involves one’s life and powers. Parenting is like that – it’s 24/7 with no down time. Paul was making his heart known to the Corinthian church, his willingness to see them grow in the Lord.
These are very busy and full days that we are living in, yet we are encouraged to keep before us the importance of “feeding” our children the word of God, sometimes sacrificing our own desires, time, etc., so that they may grow and flourish in the eternal life that the word of God provides. Keep holding fast to the instruction and wisdom that is found in God’s word and see your family thrive in the joy and the peace that comes from a close, personal and living relationship with Him.
