Jesus went out preaching and teaching. So also did the Apostles Paul, Peter, John and everyone else mentioned in the Book of Acts. Whenever the Word of God was preached there were those that received it and those that rejected it. There were those that were hungry and those that were agitated.
When the disciples were filled with the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost they wound up going out in the street speaking in tongues. The result was that some said they were filled with new wine while others asked What must we do to be Saved? Some were hungry, some rejected.
When Paul would preach to the Gentiles the Jews were filled with jealousy. There were those that rejoiced in hearing what Paul preached (hungry), and those that wanted to kill him for what he preached (agitated).
Matthew 13.24-26 Jesus presented another parable to them, saying, “The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a man who sowed good seed in his field. “But while his men were sleeping, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went away. “But when the wheat sprouted and bore grain, then the tares became evident also.”
When the Word of God goes forth it grows up the grain. It is the sprouted grain that makes the tares evident. The Word of God does not point out the tares, the grain does that. The Word of God is a preaching of truth that the hungry will receive and the agitated will reject.
Luke 10.1-2 “Now after this the Lord appointed seventy others, and sent them in pairs ahead of Him to every city and place where He Himself was going to come. And He was saying to them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”
The laborers are to go out into the harvest. Who is the harvest? Those who will receive the truth of the preaching of the Word of God. The harvest of grain sprouts and reveals the tares and both are evident.
